Welcome Statement of The Director General

First and foremost, on behalf of the Governing Board, Management and Staff of the Drug Law Enforcement Agency, The Gambia (DLEAG), I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the website of the Drug Law Enforcement Agency, The Gambia.

DLEAG is the lead Government Security institution responsible for enforcing the Drug Control Act (DCA) 2003 and all other international protocols and Conventions relative to drug abuse, illicit drug trafficking and related crimes that The Gambia is a signatory to.

Since its establishment, the Agency has gone through a rigorous transformation with the objective of ensuring that its operational activities are in line with internationally recognized standards.

Over the years, the Government of The Gambia has had zero tolerance for drug abuse and trafficking while ensuring that it works closely with all stakeholders in drug demand reduction.

Inter Agency Collaboration

Though the lead Government Security Institution in the crusade on drugs, the agency works closely with Sister Security Institutions. Drugs do not exist in isolation and as such cannot be curbed by any single entity or institution.

In the Gambia, DLEAG is proud of the close collaboration and partnership that exist between the Agency and Sister Security Institutions. This partnership has greatly help disrupt the activities of criminal dens bent on undermining the peace, stability and development of the country.

The Gambia Police Force (GPF), The Gambia Armed Forces (GAF), State Intelligence Services (SIS), the Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA), The Gambia Prison Services (GPS), the Gambia Immigration Department (GID) and the Gambia Fire and Rescue Services (GFRS) have all been extroverted in providing assistance to the Agency whenever the need arise.

International Partnership

Taking cognisance of the importance of international cooperation and partnership in tackling drug trafficking and related organised crimes, the agency can boast of a cordial working relationship with The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), The Drug Unit at the ECOWAS Commission, the Drug Unit at the African Union Commission, the United States Embassy in the Gambia, The United Kingdom (UK) Embassy in the Gambia, the European Union, the Serious Organised Crime Unit (SOCA) of the UK, International Police (Interpol).

The establishment of the Joint Airport Interdiction Task Force (JAITF) at the Banjul International Airport has greatly help the Agency link and share intelligence with partners across the globe.
