DLEAG Ends a Week-Long Regional Sensitization Of Students

The Public Affairs and Drug Demand Reduction Unit of the Drug Law Enforcement Agency the Gambia (DLEAG) last week conducted a week long regional schools sensitization tour targeting selected schools within the Upper River Region (URR), Central River Region (CRR), and the Lower River Region.

Speaking to this medium, the PRO of DLEAG revealed that on weekly basis, they have been engaging schools and communities within the urban areas. However he said, there is need to engage the rural communities and schools as well because according to him, drug does not know boundary.  “The public, particularly youths and students are sometimes misinformation on issues relating to drugs,” the PRO said. He stated that drug abuse affect students’ academic performance and personal development. “Through engagement of this nature, we are able to clear their doubt and stimulate their interest to do more research and engage in meaningful activities,” he noted.

The Public Relations Office has been spearheading the Agency’s drug demand reduction programs and activities. In order to ensure a balanced approach in tackling the drug menace, we continue to engage relevant stakeholders from the Health Sector, Education, Agriculture, Youth and Sport Coordinators, Civil Society Organisations, Religious Leaders, the Media fraternity and other opinion leaders and stakeholders.

Public participation and collaboration is at the cornerstone of solving the world`s drug problem, the absence of which could defeat our vision of realizing drug free societies.
